Each frame is made up of two or more columns supporting a rafter that runs laterally from one side of the building to the other. Spaced at intervals between the two endwalls, the main frames are the “axis” of the building, and absorb most of the weight load. That is why "red iron" is used in the majority of commercial, industrial, agricultural, and residential out-building construction projects- from dog houses to stadiums. Galvanized is a strong alternative in extraordinarily uncommon corrosive environments such as salt-water corrosion zones, high-acidity rain zones, chemical plants, etc. Galvanized steel cannot be factory-painted in-house, it cannot be curved without cracking the finish, and fatal fumes are produced when attempting to weld galvanized metal Though it is resistant to red rust oxidation, galvanized metal is susceptible to white rust oxidation. Red-oxide primer is designed to protect the steel before it is erected, For additional costs, some manufacturers just spray-paint manufactured components. Cold-formed steel is always fully primed before fabrication, and the red-oxide coat is baked on all our “red-iron” frames and components. “Rigid Frame” Metal Building System Frame Types Available Frames "Clearspan" rigid-frame buildings, modular, and single slope are the primary frame types supplied in the industry, and these are extensively illustrated below. . Clearspan Frames The clearspan rigid frame offers unparalleled strength, versatility, cost-effectiveness, and un-wasted space, because no interior columns or other supports are required. This provides for 100%, unobstructed usable space, and since no wall bears any of the weight load, the possibilities of interior floor plans are virtually infinite. Clearspan frames are cost-effective for buildings as wide as 150' feet. Modular Frames Modular frames incorporate interior support columns, and for building applications wider than 150’, modular frames provide for the most cost-effective frame solution. Single Slope Frames Single slope frames are asymmetrical, one sidewall slopes from front to back, typically with minimal roof pitch for cost-effectiveness.
